Nokia101 , Nokia100
Ailing Nokia on Thursday unveiled two cheap cellphone models, aiming to strengthen its position against low-cost Asian rivals.

The Nokia 101, which comes with slots for two different SIM cards, will be available this quarter for about 25 euros ($35.22), excluding taxes and subsidies, while the Nokia 100 will be available next quarter for about 20 euros.

Nokia shares have roughly halved this year as the firm has struggled to keep up with the pace of smartphone development, but the firm has also lost ground in the cheaper end of the market to Asian brands like ZTE and G'Five.

Nokia's first dual-SIM model reached the market only last quarter, enabling smaller rivals to benefit from growing demand for such models which are increasingly popular in countries like India.

Low development cost of mobile apps brings next phase of outsourcing in India

http://www.lookingforiphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/iPhoneClaw.pngBetween piles of trash and stray dogs near a Mumbai slum is the entrance to MoFirst Solutions, where two dozen workers sit shoulder-to-shoulder with no air conditioning and write code for iPhone apps on laptops. "The rates Indian developers charge are very low," said Akash Dongre, chief operating officer at MoFirst Solutions, where clients pay as little as $15 an hour for a programmer. MoFirst is tapping India's next wave in outsourcing, with thousands of programmers that charge a fraction of Silicon Valley prices to capitalize on demand for programs for Apple Inc.'s iPhone and devices running Google Inc.'s Android software.

Developers-for-hire for mobile applications may generate $5.6 billion in revenue by 2015, a 14-fold jump from this year, Forrester Research Inc. estimates. "India is a logical place to do it for the same reason the software and services model has worked here: lower cost," said Anshul Gupta, an analyst at research firm Gartner Inc. in Mumbai. Applications on Apple's online store have been downloaded more than 15 billion times since its opening in 2008 -- with the Cupertino, California-based company getting a 30 percent cut on each sale --as the surge of iPhone sales spawned demand for games and applications. "It's not about the device -- that's not what makes sales happen -- it's about the ecosystem ," said Gupta. "You need to have applications."

LARGEST APP OUTSOURCER

Companies or individuals seeking to hire can turn to sites such as Elance Inc.'s service , where companies such as MoFirst will bid to win app-development projects lasting from a couple of weeks to several months. India is the world's largest recipient of outsourcing orders, according to Elance, whose website showed more than 450,000 professionals offering their services as of yesterday. Requests for programmers who write code for Apple's iOS platform rose 20% in the second quarter, according to Mountain View, California-based Elance. Demand for programmers with Android skills rose by 15 percent, while developer requests for Research In Motion's Blackberry devices increased by 3 percent, according to the company. "The iPhone stuff is very, very hot," said Ajai Shankar, who spent 12 years in the US as a software writer and moved back to India this year to embrace the app-outsourcing boom. "The struggle people have nowadays, is that once you've developed an application for iPhone, the next thing you know is you have to do the same for Android."

PRICING EDGE

Indian developers may have the edge in pricing. MoFirst bills clients in the US, the UK and the Middle East $15 to $20 an hour, compared with the $50 to $100 charged by developers in the U.S., said Dongre, who has a mechanical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Applications MoFirst recently developed include Friends Aloud, an audio Facebook feed it created for a Texas-based entrepreneur, and Producteev, a task-management tool, for a New York-based client, he said. MoFirst's competition includes Qburst Technologies, which started in 2004 as a Web developer in the southern Indian town of Trivandrum. The company, which employs 400 people, may increase hiring after revenue from websites and iPhone apps jumped 76 percent to $3.18 million last year, said Manjith Kamalasanan , a business development manager at the company.

EVOLVING INDUSTRY

Qburst has developed 150 mobile apps for customers in the UK and US. That includes an iPhone app for St. Albans, UKbased PrivateFly, which allows users to search for and book private jets; an e-commerce iPad application for Simba Toys, and an iPhone shopping search application for thefind.com. Offering cheaper software than in the US and Europe has worked in India before. Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys have grown from being back office service providers to Asia's two biggest companies by market value among providers of information-technology services, an industry Gartner estimates will grow 6.6% this year to $846 billion. While IT services still dominate the nation's technology industry, the rise of mobile-app developers signals Indian technology companies may be evolving, Gartner's Gupta said. That's what developers such as Dongre may be counting on. "Change is happening very fast in India ," said MoFirst's Dongre. "People are starting to think more about developing products."
WHY IS IT HAPPENING

Indian developers may have the edge in pricing. MoFirst bills clients in the US, the UK and the Middle East $15 to $20 an hour, compared with the $50 to $100 charged by developers in the US

WHAT ARE THE DEMAND DRIVERS .

Requests for programmers who write code for Apple's iOS platform rose 20% in the second quarter, says Elance. Demand for programmers with Android skills rose by 15%, while developer requests for Black-Berry devices increased by 3%

WHY IS IT A SECOND COMING .

Offering cheaper software than in the U.S. and Europe has worked in India before. TCS. and Infosys have grown to become Asia's two biggest IT firms

How to use apps for your smartphone to cut spam SMS, email & unwanted calls

" Constantly buried under heaps of spam SMS, email & unwanted calls? Block them and you'll save a lot of time. ET guides you how to use apps for your smartphone, extensions for your e-mail client and little tricks to cut out all the spam "

ANDROID

For Android, the best app is SMS Blocker from Pune-based Optinno Mobitech. This ad-supported app is free from the Android Market for Android smartphones and unlike other spam blockers, it automatically blocks spam using a built in database of known spammers. The application quietly and efficiently runs in the background, filtering all the text messages that arrive - if it deems a message as spam, the phone will not ring. You can monitor the blocked messages from time to time to check whether a legit SMS has been blocked. Other apps for Android that you can consider are SMS Filter (by Tsvetan Nachev) and Handcent SMS.

BLACKBERRY

BlackBerry handsets include a built in firewall which is switched off by default . To activate it, go to Options > Security > Firewall. Enable the firewall for text messages and/or emails, but remember to scroll down and select 'Contacts' under Exceptions. This way, a sender stored in your contact list will not be blocked. You can also choose to add exceptions manually for bank alerts, mobile providers or whatever else you choose. Other apps that you can consider are SRS Call SMS & Email Spam ( 466), SMS Blocker (by Skyant, 140) and Antair SMS Filter ( 186).

SYMBIAN

Optinno also makes the SMS Blocker app for Nokia Symbian phones, but it costs 199 (one-time purchase, tied to the phone's IMEI number). You can find out more or download a trial version from www.smsblocker.in. Other apps for Symbian include SMS Spam Manager ( 75), Call & SMS Filter ( 75) and Whitelist for Calls/SMS ( 99).

KASPERSKY MOBILE SECURITY

KMS 9 is a complete security and firewall app, available for Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile. It costs $29.99 per phone, per year and protects you from malware and attacks, but you can also use it to encrypt contents of the phone, remotely track a lost phone, wipe all data from a lost phone to prevent misuse, restrict calls & SMS (parental control) or use it to block unwanted SMS and calls. It blocks using black/white lists which you have to create yourself, so it is a time consuming process. Find out more at www.kaspersky.com.

Calls

The rise of mobile phones has led to an increase in unsolicited calls. First, get on the DND (Do Not Disturb) list by texting DND to 1909. Unfortunately, even those who have subscribed to DND get calls, simply because there is no effective way to police telemarketers . There is another way out - take matters into your own hands and use a call blacklist for your mobile phone. With a blacklist app, choose which numbers to block and they'll never be able to call again.

APPLE IPHONE

Unfortunately, the iPhone does not have an effective blacklist application/feature that actually works. However, if you have a jailbroken iPhone, then you are in luck. iBlacklist only works on jailbroken iPhones because of the restrictions imposed by Apple. The app adds call and sms blocking functionality and provides the option of creating a blacklist and whitelist. You can make and use multiple lists at the same time and setup an auto-reply sms for blocked callers. The app is priced at $12 and can be downloaded from www.iblacklist.com.br.

ANDROID

For android users, there are a lot of free apps available which work effectively in providing the blacklist feature. A simple search for blacklist in the Android Market will show you multiple results and you can try out each of them to see which one suits your purpose. We recommend that you try Call Filter by Telemarks, Blacklist by AntTek and Call blocker by NetQin Mobile first. All these apps are free and easy to use.

SYMBIAN

Symbian, being one of the oldest smartphone operating systems , has a number of call blocking applications, but the most effective ones are paid apps. There are free apps such as Handy Blacklist, Best Blacklist Lite and BlockMe, but they usually have some limitations . The paid ones include Blacklist, Xblockr and Advanced Call Manager. They are all priced between 50 to 125. You can try multiple apps, but make sure you uninstall the first one before installing another .

BLACKBERRY

BlackBerry has its share of apps like Phonebasics, Call Blocker & Screen and Simtak Call Filter, all of which are free and do the basic job of creating a blacklist to block unwanted callers. If you need advanced features such as scheduling, backup and restore blacklists, then paid apps such as Call Blocker Pro and Call Control Pro can be used. The paid call blocker apps are usually priced between 93 to 233.

E-mail

Email is a favorite target for spammers . You may have signed up to receive spam yourself without realising it - by registering with various websites, online services or newsletters. Paid security suites from Norton, AVG and Kaspersky come with their own anti-spam plug-ins for desktop email clients - these are one of the more effective ways to combat spam. In case you want something effective yet free, these are some of the options you can consider.

GMAIL/YAHOO/HOTMAIL

By default, all online mail providers have their own spam guards that filter out the most common spam mails. Each of them also gives you the option to customise your spam filter by reporting emails and addresses that are sending spam. Many spam filters will intelligently learn what kind of mails you marking as spam and identify similar spam mails automatically. To further protect your identity, all these online services block HTML linked images in received mail, unless you expressly ask to receive it. Hotmail offers the option to create a 'safe senders' list where email addresses and even domain names can be added. Gmail can show you a key icon next to authenticated messages from certain senders (this feature needs to be activated from Google labs within Gmail). You can also set filters to deliver certain types of mail directly to the junk/trash folder.

MICROSOFT OUTLOOK

Outlook comes with a preloaded junk e-mail filter, which is set to 'low' by default. One of the easiest ways to get rid of spam mails here is to just increase the protection level of your junk mail filter. Outlook doesn't just stop there, the junk filter comes with five different protection lists - safe senders, safe recipients, blocked senders, blocked encoding and blocked domain lists. Each list works to its name and protects various mails sent and received using Outlook. Alternatively, you can also install various plugins if you feel that the level of protection is not enough. Some recommended plugins for Outlook are AntySpam and Spam Reader.

MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD

Thunderbird comes with its own set of junk mail filters. It needs to be trained for a few weeks to be able to identify spam mails on the basis of previous mails reported as spam. After it has been trained, Thunderbird will automatically identify junk mail and move it to the junk folder. There are also various add-ons available for Thunderbird that can do the job without any training . Spamfighter is one of the more popular and effective addons (it is also available as a free add-on for Outlook, Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail). Another add-on called JunQuilla adds a column with a percentage likelihood that a message is spam.

Apple suppliers building cheaper, 8GB iPhone 4: Sources

Apple iPhone 4
Asian suppliers to Apple Inc have begun manufacturing a lower priced version of its hot-selling iPhone 4 with a smaller 8 gigabyte flash drive, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.

The flash drive for the 8GB iPhone 4 is being manufactured by a Korean company, one of the people said on Tuesday, declining to name the company. Apple currently sources its flash drives from Japan's Toshiba and South Korea's Samsung Electronics .

The sources declined to be identified because the information has not been made public.

Apple, which demands high levels of secrecy and security from suppliers and employees, declined to comment.

The existing iPhone 4 was first launched in June 2010 with 16 GB and 32 GB versions, with a white version added to the lineup in April. The 8 GB version expected to launch within weeks, one of the sources said.

In addition to launch of the smaller iPhone 4, Apple is targetting an end September launch for the next-generation iPhone 5, one source said, confirming earlier reports on Apple follower blogsites and industry websites.

The new iPhone, which some call the iPhone 4S because of its largely identical appearance to the existing iPhone 4, will have a bigger touch screen, better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera, one of the people said.

The iPhone 5's two manufacturers have been told to prepare production capacity for up to 45 million units altogether, the source said. The phone will be made by Hon Hai and Pegatron , the person added.

Facebook - 500 million users

Facebook Picture
Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over 500 million users.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, initially as an exclusive network for Harvard students. It was a huge hit: in 2 weeks, half of the schools in the Boston area began demanding a Facebook network. Zuckerberg immediately recruited his friends Dustin Moskowitz and Chris Hughes to help build Facebook, and within four months, Facebook added 30 more college networks.

With HP tablet dead, who can challenge Apple?

With HP tablet dead, who can challenge Apple? The sudden demise of Hewlett-Packard Co's WebOS TouchPad after just seven weeks on shelves was a reminder of how tech giants have failed so far to take a bite out of Apple Inc's iPad.

The TouchPad joins Dell Streak 5 in the tablet graveyard and weak sales for many offerings suggest others are bound to follow.

"The non-iPad tablets just won't sell at retail. That's the clear message from events over the past few days," said Mark Gerber, an analyst at Boston research and investment firm Detwiler Fenton.

Other tablets that have failed to click with consumers include Asustek Computer Eee Pad Transformer and the Xoom from Motorola Mobility, which Google Inc plans to buy.

Research in Motion's PlayBook received scathing reviews and sales have been slack, but it will probably survive since it is key to RIM's strategy.

"I do not expect RIM to be shutting down PlayBook sales any time soon or abandoning that platform, because RIM views it as its future," said Colin Gillis, an analyst at BGC Financial in New York.

Apple's rivals have not fared any better in designing software for tablets.

Apple's iOS tablet software accounted for 61.3 percent of the tablet market in the second quarter, more than double the 30.1 percent share held by Google's Android, its nearest competitor. Microsoft held a paltry 4.6 percent share and RIM 3.3 percent, according to Strategy Analytics.

COMPETITION COMING

But the landscape could soon change. Google's move this week to buy Motorola Mobility, a hardware manufacturer, has also potentially raised the stakes against Apple as it will give the Internet leader devices to showcase its software -- just as Apple does.

All eyes are now on Google's "Ice Cream Sandwich" system, which will unite the Android software used in tablets and smartphones. That is expected to encourage developers to flock to the platform and create better apps.

Microsoft could also pose a threat when it releases its tablet software, code-named Windows 8, but this probably won't be until the fall of 2012.

"The ecosystem built around Microsoft is the largest computing ecosystem out there, so this makes it the company most likely to get significant traction in the tablet marketplace," said BGC's Gillis.

Microsoft has said the software will run on a range of devices from traditional PCs to laptops and tablets, and incorporate mouse and keyboard commands.

Amazon.com, the maker of the popular Kindle e-reader, is also expected to announce plans to release a tablet this fall, providing a challenge to Apple.

The Amazon offering could be a "game-changer," Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Robert Baird & Co, said in a recent note. The tablet will likely feature Android's Honeycomb OS system, a 7-inch screen and be priced under $300, he said.
Sebastian forecast sales of up to 3 million units in the first year and said they would eventually outsell other Android-enabled tablets from Motorola and Acer, and could potentially surpass Samsung's Galaxy Tab.

Amazon's as-yet unnamed tablet poses a significant threat to Apple because of the Kindle's popularity and the movie and music services the company sells. Analysts also expect Amazon to subsidize the tablet's price, which could also boost sales.

"Amazon is widely viewed as a wild card. It has the potential to be disruptive," said NPD analyst Ross Rubin.

The crowded market has not discouraged Sony Corp either. The consumer electronics giant is going full steam ahead with plans to release its first two tablets in the fall.

"We're going to see many competitors come and go," a Sony spokeswoman said.

"We're going to bring the best of all of the assets at our disposal to bear: hardware, content and network services."

Indian mobile cos RCOM, Micromax, Bharti and Lava make rush to launch tablet mobiles starting at Rs 7,000 to lure first-time buyers

Tablets
If iPad is the only word that comes to mind when someone says tablet, here's news for you. It's not just the Apples and Samsungs that are dishing out these fancy mobile PCs with a flat touch screen not much larger than your cellphone. A number of Indian companies - big and small, well-known and obscure - are launching tablets almost on a daily basis; a few of them are putting out several models in a day. The best part: they are being launched at mouth-watering prices to seduce first-time buyers and steer them away from laptops and netbooks.

The smaller the company the more ambitious is the launch. Take, for instance, Lakshmi Access Communications Systems (LACS). The Bangalore-based equipment maker, earlier unknown to the Indian tablet scene, launched 14 tablets starting from Rs 6,999 on Friday. The tablets will be available on shop shelves from September while online bookings will open within 10 days.

During the week, Reliance Communications (RCOM) and Bharti Airtel's handset arm, Beetel Teletech, shattered price barriers by launching tablets starting at Rs 12,999 and Rs 9,999, respectively, within days of each other.

Not unpredictably, it was the Chinese bandwagon comprising manufacturers such as Huawei and G'Five that triggered the price wars. G'Five's tablet sells for Rs 10,000, which is less than a third of the cost of Motorola's Xoom 3G, which retails at just under Rs 33,000.

Indian players are responding in style. Other than LACS with its Magnum range of Android tablets, companies such as Lava, Micromax, Zen, Olive, and Fly are also readying to launch affordable tablets. These mobile handset winners now hope to do an encore with tablets. Delhi-based Lava Mobiles plans to introduce a tablet next month that will be priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 on an Android platform, the company's director SN Rai recently told ET. This would be around the same time Huawei begins selling its high-end tablet MediaPad from October, a company executive said.

Lesser-known Fly Mobiles will begin with a range starting at Rs 8,000. "Price will be the key factor in deciding the winner," says CEO Prem Kumar.

Tablets are essentially meant for content consumption rather than content creation. They are being used for photo and video viewing in homes or presenting a quick slideshow to a client, says Vyomesh Joshi, executive VP at HP, which recently launched HP TouchPad.

In a strategy similar to that followed by low-cost Indian handset makers, most tablet makers are relying on the volumes-focused Chinese contract manufacturers.

We follow the same contract manufacturing model that everyone does," says Mahendra Jain, managing director, LACS. RCOM's tablet is also sourced from Chinese equipment maker ZTE.

By doing so, Indian tablet marketers would be looking to erode the share of large MNCs in the same way the handset players slowly but surely chipped away at Nokia's share. Most tablets use Google's Android operating system that is available for free and has a huge apps store for consumers; a few Windows-based tablets below Rs 15,000 are also available.

After-sales service is crucial for tablets. Larger brands have dedicated service centres - a luxury low-cost tablet users may not be privy to. However, LACS' Jain says service will be the company's main proposition. Its tablets come with two warranties - an 'upgrade' warranty wherein the consumer can graduate to a new tablet by returning the existing one and having its value assessed, and a 'swap replacement' warranty under which LACS will take back a damaged device and replace it within two days at no additional cost.

According to International Data Corporation, the tablet PC market in India is estimated at 200,000-300,000 units a year. "We believe the market size would be between 250,000 and 500,000 units in 2011. We are targeting a significant part of this market with our lineup," says Ranjit Yadav, Samsung India's country head (mobile and IT).

But the going may not be that easy. Indian consumers are likely to be confused about the usage of tablets rather than be attracted to the low price points, says Gartner principal research analyst Vishal Tripathi.

China joins global race to build fastest super-computer in 2020

China has joined the global race to build the world's fastest supercomputer in 2020.

"China is preparing to work on a supercomputer with a capacity of 100 petaflops by 2015 and try to produce the first exascale computer in 2020," the China Daily quoted the Tianhe-1A supercomputer's Deputy Chief Designer, Hu Qingfeng, as saying.

"We have kicked off the research of some core technologies and manpower cultivation for the plan," he added.

Chinese scientists are attempting to produce Exascale computing, which means generating computing beyond the current petascale. If achieved, it will represent a thousandfold increase on that scale.

The challenges confronting the technique include the performance of central processing unit (CPU), interconnection network, programming, energy management and system fault tolerance, he said.

The challenges in developing supercomputers include technology breakthroughs and the promotion among users who usually prefer the old systems they are used to operating, Tianhe team member Lu Yutong said.

"In a move to promote supercomputers' application among users, we need to better understand their practical demand," she said.

The Tianhe-1A supercomputer has won positive feedback from about 100 users in varied fields such as seismic science, meteorology, medicine, commercial design, construction and manufacturing.

The next target for the Tianhe-1A team is to build a machine that can perform tens of petaflops per second, as well as developing new CPUs and graphics processing units (GPUs).

Your Android, Windows, iPhone or BlackBerry smartphone is the next target of hackers

Hackers are out to stymie your smartphone. Last week, security researchers uncovered yet another strain of malicious software aimed at smartphones that run Google's popular Android operating system.

http://www.anugrahjaya.com/image-upload/blackberry-symbian-android-windows-iphone.jpg The application not only logs details about incoming and outgoing phone calls, it also records those calls. That came a month after researchers discovered a security hole in Apple's iPhones, which prompted the German government to warn Apple about the urgency of the threat.

/photo.cms?msid=9536613 Security experts say attacks on smartphones are growing fast - and attackers are becoming smarter about developing new techniques. "We're in the experimental stage of mobile malware where the bad guys are starting to develop their business models," said Kevin Mahaffey, co-founder of Lookout, a San Francisco-based maker of mobile security software. Wrong-doers have infected PCs with malicious software, or malware, for decades.

Now, they are fast moving to smartphones as the devices become a vital part of everyday life. Some 38% of American adults now own an iPhone, BlackBerry or other mobile phone that runs the Android, Windows or WebOS operating systems, according to data from Nielsen.

The smartphone's usefulness, allowing people to organize their digital lives with one device, is also its allure to criminals. All at once, smartphones have become wallets, email lockboxes, photo albums and Rolodexes.

And because owners are directly billed for services bought with smartphones, they open up new angles for financial attacks. The worst programs cause a phone to rack up unwanted service charges, record calls, intercept text messages and even dump emails, photos and other private content directly onto criminals' servers.

China says it was targeted in 500,000 cyberattacks

China's computer security agency says the country suffered nearly 500,000 cyberattacks last year and almost half originated overseas.

The National Computer Network Emergency Response Coordination Center of China said 14.7 per cent of the attacks came from the United States and 8 per cent from India.

The report Tuesday follows suggestions Beijing might be behind global cyberattacks over the past five years targeting more than 70 government entities.

A Chinese state newspaper called it ``irresponsible'' to link China with Internet hacking attacks reported by computer security firm McAfee Inc. earlier this month. China has not officially commented on the report but has denied all charges of hacking in the past and says the country itself is a victim of hacking.

How to Install Windows XP _ Page 1

Install Windows XP

This procedure demonstrates how to install Windows XP Professional. The procedure to install Windows XP home edition is very similar to the professional edition. Since Windows XP Pro is more advanced operating system, it will be used to demonstrate the installation procedure.
The best way install Windows XP is to do a clean install. It is not difficult to perform a clean installation. Before you perform the installation I recommend that you check Windows XP Compatibility List to ensure that your hardware is supported by XP. If your hardware is not on the compatibility list you can check your hardware manufactures website to download the drivers for Windows XP. Save all the necessary drivers onto floppy disks or CD before you start the installation.
All versions of Windows XP CD are bootable. In order to boot from CD/DVD-ROM you need to set the boot sequence. Look for the boot sequence under your BIOS setup and make sure that the first boot device is set to CD/DVD-ROM. You can then perform the following steps to install Windows XP:

Step 2 - At this stage it will ask you to press F6 if you want to install a third party Raid or SCSI driver. If you are using a an IDE Hard Drive then you do not need to press F6. If you are using a SCSI or SATA Hard drive then you must press F6 otherwise Windows will not detect your Hard Drive during the installation. Please make sure you have the Raid drivers on a floppy disk. Normally the drivers are supplied on a CD which you can copy to a floppy disk ready to be installed. If you are not sure how to do this then please read your motherboard manuals for more information.

Step 8 - This step is very important. Here we will create the partition where Windows will be installed. If you have a brand new unformatted drive you will get a screen similar to below. In our case the drive size is 8190MB. We can choose to install Windows in this drive without creating a partition, hence use the entire size of the drive. If you wish to do this you can just press enter and Windows will automatically partition and format the drive as one large drive.
However for this demonstration I will create two partition. The first partition will be 6000MB (C: drive) and second partition would be 2180MB (E: drive). By creating two partition we can have one which stores Windows and Applications and the other which stores our data. So in the future if anything goes wrong with our Windows install such as virus or spyware we can re-install Windows on C: drive and our data on E: drive will not be touched. Please note you can choose whatever size partition your like. For example if you have 500GB hard drive you can have two partition of 250GB each.
Press C to create a partition.

Step 8 - Windows will show the total size of the hard drive and ask you how much you want to allocate for the partition you are about to create. I will choose 6000MB. You will then get the screen below. Notice it shows C: Partition 1 followed by the size 6000 MB. This indicates the partition has been created. We still have an unpartitioned space of 2189MB. Next highlight the unpartitioned space by pressing down the arrow key. Then press C to create another partition. You will see the total space available for the new partition. Just choose all the space left over, in our case 2180MB.

Step 9 - Now you will see both partition listed. Partition 1 (C: Drive) 6000MB and Partition 2 (E: Drive) 2180MB. You will also have 8MB of unpartitioned space. Don't worry about that. Just leave it how its is. Windows normally has some unpartitioned space. You might wonder what happened to D: drive. Windows has automatically allocated D: drive to CD/DVD-ROM.
Select Partition 1 (C: Drive) and press Enter.

Step 10 - Choose format the partition using NTFS file system. This is the recommended file system. If the hard drive has been formatted before then you can choose quick NTFS format. We chose NTFS because it offers many security features, supports larger drive size, and bigger size files.

Windows will now start formatting drive C: and start copying setup files as shown on the two images below :

Step 26 - You now need to check the device manager to confirm that all the drivers has been loaded or if there are any conflicts. From the start menu select Start -> Settings -> Control Panel. Click on the System icon and then from the System Properties window select the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager.

If there are any yellow exclamation mark "!" next to any of the listed device, it means that no drivers or incorrect drivers has been loaded for that device. In our case we have a Video Controller (VGA card) which has no drivers installed.
Your hardware should come with manufacturer supplied drivers. You need to install these drivers using the automatic setup program provided by the manufacturer or you need to manually install these drivers. If you do not have the drivers, check the manufacturers website to download them.
To install a driver manually use the following procedure:
(a) From the device manager double click on the device containing the exclamation mark.
(b) This would open a device properties window.
(c) Click on the Driver tab.
(d) Click Update Driver button. The Wizard for updating device driver pops up as shown below:

Windows XP Screenshot - Click to enlarge

You now get two options. The first option provides an automatic search for the required driver. The second option allows you to specify the location of the driver. If you don't know the location of the driver choose the automatic search which would find the required driver from the manufacturer supplied CD or Floppy disk. Windows would install the required driver and may ask you to restart the system for the changes to take affect. Use this procedure to install drivers for all the devices that contain an exclamation mark. Windows is completely setup when there are no more exclamation marks in the device manager.
